Can we just give big ups to San Francisco 49ers assistant coach Katie Sowers? Not only was she promoted to a full-time coach a couple weeks back, only the 2nd-ever woman to be elevated to that status in NFL history, but she's also just become the first openly gay coach in NFL history.
No matter what you do in life, one of the most important things is to be true to who you are. There are so many people who identify as LGBT in the NFL, as in any business, that do not feel comfortable being public about their sexual orientation. The more we can create an environment that welcomes all types of people, no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, the more we can help ease the pain and burden that many carry every day.
Honestly, it'll be nice when the world gets to a point where this isn't news, and this isn't even a blog post, because it's just any other day. But for now, big ups to Katie Sowers for staying true to herself and hopefully blazing a path in the NFL that encourages others to come out and for the world to stop caring how someone identifies or what gender people are into.
